Chicago Summer Staff Team 2005

Maria Krietzer - Maria is from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. She's in her junior year at University of Wisconsin-Madison (go Badgers!) majoring in Secondary Math Education. Last summer, she worked in youth missions in Duluth, Minnesota and discovered a love for junior high students. During the school year, she has ministered with two junior high youth groups leading bible studies, teaching confirmation class, and helping with large group activities.The especially loves hard questions about God, playing crazy games, and constantly breaking out into giggles with the students. Maria expresses her love of singing and dancing through her involvement in University Gospel choir. She's also interested in racial reconciliation and multi-cultural ministries. "I am excited about students acting as the hands and feet of Christ in Chicago and seeing the life-changing experiences God will give them as they serve."
Hannah Fagan - Hannah comes from Fruita, Colorado. She has experience counseling at elementary and middle school camps, as well as preaching at her church. She has been on a variety of mission trips, including one with CSM to Los Angeles. Hannah enjoys rafting, snowboarding, hiking, spending time with family and friends, church and reading. Among her goals for the summer are to serve and learn. "It is one of my passions to serve others, while serving God, and I know that God is going to teach me many things in many different ways."
Steve Gisel - Steve is a pastor's kid from Midland, a small town in the middle of Michigan. This fall he will complete a social work degree from Cornerstone University by completing an internship in Chicago. He has been to CSM Toronto, CSM Chicago as well as on short term trips to West Virginia and Istanbul, Turkey. Steve has volunteered with an urban after-school program in Grand Rapids, and has worked for three summers with at-risk kids 4-15 years old at a Salvation Army day camp in Midland. Prior to this summer, he was in a four month study abroad program in Central America where he spent time in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Guatemala. Steve enjoys all kinds of sports, reading, listening to music and most of all, spending time with people. "I am looking forward to working with CSM this summer because I think it will be a great opportunity for me to learn more about the city, its ministries, and most importantly the people. I am excited to be able to build relationships with the kids in the groups that come, as well as the people that I am able to meet through the different ministries with which CSM partners."
Megan Mackay - Megan is from Cleveland, OH and is a recent graduate of Wittenberg University with a degree in Middle Childhood Education. She has worked with Here's Life Inner City (part of Campus Crusade for Christ) in Seattle and in Chicago. This spring she completed her student teaching with middle school students. She enjoys working with people and helping them any way she can. Megan also loves to be active-- playing games, sports, or singing and doing drama. She loves the city of Chicago and is looking forward to meeting people from many backgrounds. "My goal this summer is for the students to be challenged in their faith and to be willing to try new things and be open to different ideas."
Megan McKenney - Megan grew up in Russellville, AR and is a senior John Brown University (Siloam Springs, AR) majoring in Mathematics with a minor in Cross Cultural Services. She has been on CSM trips to Houston and Toronto and on other trips to Denver, Honduras, Mexico (twice), Spain, and taught English in China last summer. Megan has been a Young Life leader and worked with a youth group on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, leading Sunday night Bible studies, and as a leader on trips. She has decided that middle schoolers are pretty much her favorite. She also enjoys hanging out with friends, watching movies, trying to play the guitar, camping and pretty much anything that has to do with people. "My two passions in my life are students and missions and I am excited about this opportunity to work with CSM and be able to work with students all summer and watch them serve God and others. Chicago is an amazing city with so many people needing Christ's love and I can't wait to see what the teams will do this summer!!!"
Nathan Retzer - Nathan was raised in Clinton, IL and is a sophomore Psychology major at Cincinnati Christian University in Cincinnati, OH. During high school, he was very active with his youth group and attended CSM Chicago three times (one of those trips was as a participant in CSM's high school internship, which this year is in Los Angeles). "God has really given me a heart for this city, and I am looking forward to serving Him in any way possible."
Nicole Robinson - Nicole comes from Port Allegany, Pennsylvania and is a recent graduate of Susquehanna University with a degree in Psychology and Religion. Later this summer she will be a Masters of Divinity student at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago. Her missions experience includes trips to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and at various inner-city missions including the Pittsburgh Project and as a youth leader in CSM Washington D.C. and CSM Philadelphia. Nicole loves youth and hopes to be a youth pastor someday! She's had many opportunities to work with youth including being a youth leader with Wesley United Methodist Church. She's also been a summer camp counselor and participated in other outreach ministries on her college campus. She loves to travel, cook and eat and enjoys begin with family and friends. "I look forward to my summer with CSM and hope to continue to be a humble servant. It is my desire to help show students inner-city life so that their eyes may be opened to some needs in their own country. I want to build relationships, meet people where they are, and see each person as an individual".
Allison Thurman - Ally is from Hamilton, Ohio and is a junior at Ball State University majoring in French and Communication Studies. She has worked with junior and senior high students as a volunteer and a lifeguard at the YMCA as well as leading spiritual retreats and ministry programs at her high school. Her passions are travel, music, laughing and the Lord. She has studied in France and this summer hopes to expose herself to diversity and culture. "I believe the Lord has called me to work at this time in my favorite big city, Chicago, with CSM in order to help others to grow as well as helping my own spirituality to grow."
Johny Barbosa - Johny was born in Brasil, but raised in the Boston area. He's a graduate of Nyack College in Nyack, New York. While at Nyack, he fell in love with New York City, which is where he calls home now. Johny's involvement with youth includes as a camp counselor and worker (and participant) at Deerfoot Lodge in upstate New York. He also has been a youth pastor in the NYC area. Reading, playing and watching soccer and discovering new things are his favorite things to do. This last spring, Johny helped out in CSM Philly and in New York, where CSM is looking to possibly expand.
Ashley Reiman - Ashley is a senior at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She is majoring in Social Work because she loves being around people. Her mission trips destinations have been Mexico twice, Trinidad and recently spent time studying in Romania. She enjoys working with kids and youth, having been a junior high youth leader at her church, as well as working with youth in Romania. She plays soccer (she's on her University's team) and loves to sing, dance and just be "random". Her goal this summer is help the students who come to CSM see that we are all image bearers of God, including the homeless, homosexual, poor, rich - all people. "I am very passionate about truly trying to see people as God sees them and doing our best to love and serve them and what better way to share and do this by working with CSM."
Jeremiah Tindall - Jeremiah is a senior at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, majoring in Music and minoring in Creative Writing and Black Studies. He tries to make every aspect of his life a ministry and walk as Jesus Christ did. Jeremy enjoys playing all types of music, he crochets, sews, macramé's and likes to read. "My goal in working with CSM students is to spread the love of Christ through direct action."
Adam Claus - Adam is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and is a senior Religion/Psychology major at Hope College in Holland, MI. He enjoys watching and playing sports, reading and being with people. His short-term missions experience includes Apache, OK, Trinidad and Mexico. He's also been to CSM Nashville in high school and last spring led a trip from Hope to CSM DC. "My eyes were opened in DC, and I hope that God continues to shape me and teach me through the situations I face and the people I meet as I serve in Chicago."
Ryan DeWalt - Ryan is from Meadville, Pennsylvania and is in his third year at Anderson University. He is majoring in Christian Ministries and studying Spanish for a minor. His missions experiences have included Mexico, Kentucky, Virginia as well as CSM Washington, D.C. His youth ministry experience includes an internship at his home church, as well as helping out during high school with skits, small groups, and work camps. Ryan enjoys skateboarding, ultimate frisbee, messing around a guitar, drawing, and being goofy. He has a heart for God and People-helping people love God as much as they are trying to achieve. "I love working with youth because of the journey they're heading towards, the great growth that occurs within those years, and they're fun."
Danielle Purl - Danielle is from Princeton, Illinois, a small town two hours from Chicago. She is currently in her final year at Tyndale University College and Seminary in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, majoring in Youth Ministry. During her high school years, she went on two mission trips through CSM, one to DC and one to Toronto. She has ministered to youth at her home, as well as in Toronto. This last year, she was a member of Tyndale's student council. Some of Danielle's favorite things to do include going to coffee shops, drawing and painting, listening to music, reading Don Miller and Jack Kerouac, watching movies, fishing, going garage sale-ing, hanging out with her family and whatever else she stumbles upon. "I am excited about working with youth groups and being a part of their mission experience. God used CSM in my life and so to be a part of its ministry is a blessing and joy for me. I look forward to what God has in store for all of us this summer."
